What would be a nice gift/project for my son's first grade teacher?

She is out for a few weeks for cancer surgery and treatment. I want to make something for her, from all of the kids. I was thinking of sending a square of pretty paper home with each kid and having them write a message to her on it. Then I would put them all together like a quilt. I am not good a sewing, but could "stitch" it together?!! I don't know! ANY suggestions for any projects would help. I am not able to go into the cl and make something with them--- it will all have to be done by sending it home. Thanks!
