How do you get to the yeti's shack in twilight princess?

After finding the yeti at snowpeak, he knocks a frozen leaf off of a nearby tree and uses it as a snowboard. I do not know if I need to knock a leaf off the same tree or how to do so. Or do I use the spinner? I NEED HELP!!!
